Festivals are very important cultural events in which an important part of the history of various groups of people is remembered. The Eyo festival is a Yoruba festival unique to Lagos , Nigeria. It is also known as the Adamu Orisa play.
The word "Eyo" refers to the costumed dancer that come out during the festival. The people dressed in White, pretending to be the spirit of the dead, are called the "tall Eyo". The main road from the end of Carter Bridge to Tinubu Square.
In days gone by, the Eyo festival was held to take the soul of a dead Lagos king or chief and lead in a new king. The festival therefore took place as part of the last burial service of an important man
A full week before the festival, always a Sunday ,the Senior Eyo group, the Adimu ( wearing black, broad-rimmed hats) walk around with sticks. When this happen it means the festival will happen on the following Saturday. This was on the 20th of May 2017

Festivals are like the backbone of tradition, this is important because gives cultural identity to a group of people, may be small or large, every nation, town or even family has them, we are culture making machines in the end. Amazing post.
