Growing Crypto: Geocaching Can Be the WaysteemCreated with Sketch.

I know there have been attempts like Takara to help introduce cryptocurrency into the world of cryptocurrency, but I feel the right way to introduce geocachers to cryptocurrency is to not create a distorted "cousin" of their beloved hobby. Instead we should focus on respecting their hobby and inserting cryptocurrency into their flow without disrupting their hobby or pulling them away from the ways in which they presently enjoy it.

First off, what is geocaching?

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.

Geocaches can be found all over the world -- pretty much anywhere crypto also resides. It is common for geocachers to hide caches in locations that are important to them, reflecting a special interest or skill of the cache owner. These locations can be quite diverse. They may be at your local park, hidden in a parking lot of a local business, or on the side of a city street.

What can be found in a cache?

In its simplest form, a cache always contains a logbook or logsheet for you to log your find. Larger caches may contain a logbook and any number of items. You never know what the cache owner or visitors to the cache may have left for you to enjoy. The main rule which speaks to cryptocurrency: If you take something, leave something of equal or greater value in return.

This is how we can serve as ambassadors: by introducing cryptocurrency to our fellow tech geeks in the geocaching realm.

We print paper wallets, along with a very brief letter about cryptocurrency and place them in cache containers for other geocachers to discover, take and then hopefully explore our world of cryptocurrency as well.

I think you could even possibly go one step further and create a geocaching alt coin. Using it similar to DOGECOIN where you tip a person who creates a Geocache and possibly leave a paper wallet for the FTF

I love the idea of inserting crypto into the Geocaching world! I did a quick search and nothing of interest came up in the top results for either "crypto" or "bitcoin". I'm not sure how you would fund it but there are several kinds of geocaches that pose some sort of challenge where the people who complete the challenge could receive a wallet with just a little crypto so they would also face the challenge of accessing the wallet also. We go by MLdiehlcitoli on geocaching.com. Thanks for the post!

awesome ideea! i just found out about geocaching in the last couple of days and was thinking someone could implement crypto somehow in these caches. looking fwd to see if this happens! :D

What if the private key of a wallet was hidden somewhere and people can buy clues to the location. The tokens they spend for the clues go into this wallet, making it raise in value the more people look for it. It could be on a platform where wallet hiders are ranked and those who get really good at it will attract many people.

"The GeoCoin project is a combination of Cryptocurrency with GIS & GeoTechnologies. We've developed a GeoCashing interface which allows users to drop coins anywhere they like. Other community members can then go and pick up the dropped GEO right from the map using their smartphone GPS. The applications of where the coins placed are up to the user who drops them, but they can be used for scavenger hunts, promotions for businesses, outdoor recreation and more."
