Michigan Upper Penninsula native copper crystal

in geology •  7 years ago

Michigan’s Upper Penninsula has the purest copper deposit in the world. In many cases it’s 100% pure native.

The mid continental rift event which occured over 1 billion years ago brought copper to the surface.

This crystal was freed from calcite and matrix using muriatic acid.

Nice! I've always wanted to visit the UP of Michigan. It's seems like it would be fascinating place geologically and culturally speaking. I write about geological topics as well! I'll give you a follow! :)
