I think we all agree that German can be a complicated language to learn. Despite being in Germany for some time, I must agree that there is still room for improvement, especially in my writing. I started learning German when I moved to Germany. I was 14 years old at the time.

While improving my German writing, I made this little tool. It was at a time while I was working for a company and had a lot of free time. I used that free time to come up with this small tool which I am using ever since.
I thought maybe there is someone out there who can benefit from it.
Gifs speak more than words – as they say. Here is little demonstration what it does.
Lets consider the following sentence: Ich wohne gegenüber dem Park.
Is it „gegenüber dem Park“ or „gegenüber der Park“ or „gegenüber den Park“? Let the tool help you.
As you can see above, the tool gives you hint about which declension of the definite article has to follow. There are specific rules how this works. I did at the time some research on it. See the table below
Prepositions with dative | aus, ausser, bei, mit, nach, seit, von, zu, gegenüber |
---|---|
Prepositions with accusative | durch, für, gegen, ohne, um |
Prepositions with acusative and dative | an, auf, hinter, in, neben, über, unter, vor, zwischen |
Prepositions with genitiv | abseits, abzüglich, angesichts, angelegentlich, anhand, anlässlich, anstatt, anstelle, aufgrund, aufseiten, ausgangs, ausschließlich, außerhalb, ausweislich, behufs, beiderseits, beidseits, betreffs, bezüglich, dank, diesseits, eingangs, eingedenk, einschließlich, exklusive, fern, fernab, halber, hinsichtlich, infolge, inklusive, inmitten, innert, inpuncto, jenseits, kraft, längs, längsseits, laut, mangels, mithilfe, mittels, namens, nördlich, ob, oberhalb, östlich, punkto, rücksichtlich, seitens, seitlich, seitwärts, statt, südlich, trotz, unbeschadet, uneingedenk, unerachtet, unfern, ungeachtet, ungerechnet, unterhalb, unweit, vermittels, vermöge, vonseiten, vorbehaltlich, vorbehältlich, während, wegen, weitab, westlich, willen |
Additional to the above prepositions, there are verbs, which follow similar rules.
Verbs with accusative | aufräumen,bekommen,bestellen,brauchen,essen,haben,hören,kaufen,lesen,nehmen,reparieren,suchen,trinken,vergessen,verlieren,verstehen |
---|---|
Verbs with accusative and dative | bringen ,empfehlen ,erklären ,erzählen ,geben ,leihen ,sagen ,schenken ,schicken, schreiben, stehlen ,tragen ,verbieten ,wünschen ,zeigen |
I did not include every verb, the list is fairly long.
The tool is still in BETA, just like steemit. It should work in any software you write your text in.
For now let’s call it “Germmar”, combination of German+Grammar.
Okay Mike, enough of your writing, how can I can get?

If there is any interest, following improvement are planned for next update

EDIT: Friends have been testing it and on some computer it doesn't work. The software normally works in background. I am working on the fix. I will make another post when it's done.
EDIT2: Bug has been fixed. Should work now normally
