For the first time in six years, a solar eclipse can be seen in this country. On the morning of June 10, 2021, the new moon will slide between the sun and earth. Since the moon passed its orbit furthest away from the earth a few days earlier, the dark satellite appears slightly smaller than the solar disk. This causes a bright ring to appear around the black new moon disk. Therefore one speaks of a ring-shaped solar eclipse. The dark moon only covers 89 percent of the sun.
Time, place and Co.! When is the partial solar eclipse visible in Germany?
From Germany, the SoFi is unfortunately only visible in its partial phases. It starts at 10.12 a.m. The eclipse reaches its climax at 12.42 p.m. It begins in the north-east of Canada, moves across the northern polar sea, touches the north-west corner of Greenland, goes over the north pole of the earth and ends in north-east Siberia. While the eclipse is best seen over Greenland, visibility decreases from north to south.

At lunchtime, the sun is eclipsed by 17.4 percent over Hamburg, while in Stuttgart the degree of coverage is only 8.6 percent. It almost looks like a piece has been bitten off by the sun. Depending on the location, this maximum will be observed from west to east between 12.20 p.m. and 12.40 p.m., according to the Sternfreunde Association's website. One hour after the maximum, the spectacle is over. If you want to observe the partial solar eclipse, you should never look directly into the sun. In order to safely observe the sun, you need so-called solar eclipse glasses or welding glasses.

According to the German Weather Service (DWD), there should be nothing to prevent the partial solar eclipse on Thursday afternoon in large parts of Germany. From the central and eastern low mountain range to the Alps there are showers and thunderstorms, but in the rest of the republic the sky is hardly cloudy. There are particularly good weather prospects in the west and east.
