Pink Pvssy store: Inventive or offensive?

in getyerlearnon •  6 years ago

So was wandering a shopping mall today and saw a young girl, definitely less than 10 years old carrying a bag that said "Pink Pvssy" on it in huge letters. You are gonna have to take my word on this because I don't take photos of little kids that I don't know :) Later on I found the store that the bag was in reference to.

I'm not a prude, but I think that this is either a really brilliant marketing scheme or a naming convention that is really inappropriate, especially considering what their target demographic is.

This store is quite similar to Spencers Gifts or other such things that used to be in every shopping mall in the USA when people still shopped in malls. I think that Spencers was probably significantly more racy than this store but there is no denying what they were going for with that name. They even have a cat as their mascot.

The stores contain a collection of mostly throw-away junk that is made of mostly plastic and I would imagine is popular with mostly young high-school girls. There is nothing inappropriate about what is sold in the store, which is very different from a Spencers.

earrings made out of garbage anyone?

I'm no prude, but I also do not think that this brand would be allowed in most western countries. I think that if the officials in charge of the rather conservative Thai government were made aware of what the name of this shop is referencing, they would likely have a problem with it.

In the meantime I find it funny that a store like this exists. I'm not going to shop there because I don't really have much use for bedazzled t-shirts and necklaces with fake rhinestones. In the meantime though, if you saw this shop in your local mall, would the soccer moms have a problem with it? I certainly think that a lot of the people I know that have kids would certainly not be too thrilled about it.

Well that’s the thing though... it’s only Offensive if you think / feel it is.

They are all over Thailand. I took my 16 yo niece there while she was visiting last summer. The one in Bangkok at terminal 21 is a good one. And you can also buy your favorite scented soap penis.

I think you could get away with it in the West. Things are more in the open and what may shock our age group doesn't shock the younger ones. We are dinosaurs now who think differently.

Good old Spencer's my parents used to avoid that store like the plague when we would walk through the mall as a family. This place looks sort of like a Claire's but you are right, there is no way they were ever allow the lease to be signed with a name like that in an American mall. Very interesting!

For a guy like me, something else comes into my mind when hearing or reading a pink pussy. LOL!

I thought the one near koh san road was more appropriate. The only reason I found the one in Maya Mall, was because I went on a couple tinder dates with a Thia girl who worked there! Nice post!

and here we are together with her friend at "The Pink Pussy!"

For me it is surprising to see that in Thailand. In western countries I can understand because of open culture. But I still consider Thai to be on the conservative side. But interestingly, that could be a marketing strategy as well:)
