“There's Mr. Sykes, couldn't be he's been dead for years” that's what I heard from the backseat riding home from a boring Woman’s Auxillary meeting, growing up an only child, with a teacher as a mom, active in church, school, community everything. ...I was dragged along to everything.
One late summer evening in the late 60's I'll never forget Mrs. Jackson (because we respected our elders back then)looks over at this house to the right, says there's Mr. Sykes, my mom says it couldn't be he's been dead for years,. Mrs. Jackson, says well that's him I just saw, okay so you think my mom would get her straight but she just went along with it. Seems this happens all the time with Mrs. Jackson, she not only saw 'dead people' she was quite the psychic. I just happened to be in the place to experience it, from then on I would always pay more attention to this fascinating woman, because I had to hear more...remember this was back in the sixties, there were no shows about ghosts...unless you count...
I heard her say certain people would 'pass on' soon after they did, she would say so and so is going to have a baby before they even knew, she spoke of seeing more 'dead' people when we would take her home (forgot to mention she never learned to drive classic 60's housewife).
Funny thing I was never frightened maybe because I remember her saying numerous times, the dead can't hurt you, it's the living we have to watch out for. When I think back Mrs. Jackson was a strange creepy lady, oh and yes I looked briefly out the car window, but soon as I heard he's been dead I think I dropped down to the floorboard until we got home...again this was the sixties, no seat belts the coolest thing to me was riding in the back window ...can you see trying that now, people would laugh and wave, now they'd be dialing 911 ...but I digress :(
Finally, I watch all these shows with demonic ghosts, mean ghosts hurting people, scratching people, but the scariest is hearing well the child you see and hear may be a DEMON disguised as a child WHAT? Can you me imagine me saying oh Mrs. Jackson do you think it's demonic or a residual spirit? So she could slap me in the mouth (oh yes, she would too). All I can tell you is if what happened back then happened now and I was in the backseat hearing about old Mr. Sykes I'd be screaming my ass off, and Mrs. Jackson would be the last woman I'd want to be around.
Gotta go now, Ghosts of Shepardstown is coming on, Mrs. Jackson would love it there or maybe she's one of the ghosts, seems the whole town is haunted. HA
Do you believe in ghosts?
