A RODENT IN THE HOLE - AND TEACHING THE NEXT GENERATION

in ghsc •  6 years ago  (edited)

It's all a learning experience.

In my lifetime and work history, I've spent a lot of time training others. If the overall training was to be in-depth and extensive, often I wouldn't really count the first day. During the first day, I'd tell the trainee just to watch and listen. I would let them know that if they didn't learn anything by the end of the day, it was okay. All I was doing was trying to provide them with a "frame of reference."

I wanted what they were exposed to on the first day to look somewhat familiar on the following days. Since many may have never seen anything like the job that we were doing before, they would have no frame of reference prior to that. When I raise my children, I like to do things in a similar manner. During my entire lifetime, I've never really seen or done a lot of the things that we are up to now. It took me over thirty years to get exposed to it. If I can expose my children to it later, things will at least look familiar later on if they ever encounter a similar project in the future.

This morning, I sent Pinkie-Pepper down in our root cellar hole. The goal was to have her observe what she saw and photograph it. It wasn't just the overall project, but those tiny little creatures that showed up in the hole overnight. Photography is one of those things for which she already has a frame of reference, and she's getting better. Check it out!

@papa-pepper PINKIE-PEPPER What great pictures, baby! Congratulations!! I also have children, the oldest are 12 years old and my youngest is 7 years old, and in my experience they learn by example. Excellent photographer friend, there's your result. Congratulations!!

Undoubtedly Pinkie Pepper is acquiring an invaluable learning. She has a good teacher.

Awesome work Pinky-Pepper! Cute little mole! Are you keeping him as a pet?

@papa-pepper Nice photos! Nature is fascinating :)

Rat😂

Educational opportunities everywhere around us each day. But you @papa-pepper take advantage of them and are making your kids aware of the big world that is all around them. Great job sir.

Looks like a Vole.

That's what I'm saying Mike! It is missing the snout and has eyes so it can't be a mole.

Hard work must have paid, The rat would now be the only king of the place :D

No doubt, it's @papa-pepper . Is that one a rat? There in the little hole?

I think Papa-pepper enjoys teaching and learning. That's one of the first things that I noticed about your videos and posts. They are not just about making money or sharing what you are doing. Every post that I can recall in some way was a more about teaching, a skill or thought process or learning something yourself.
Epiphany!! I need to refocus my own contributions, make less it about me and more about them. The funny thing, I already know this, so why haven't I been doing it.
No time for the rest of those thoughts at the moment, I have to get back to work.

You are such a great Dad teaching your Little Peppers. That rodent is cute too! I'm going to say it is a Vole. It is missing the snout and has eyes so it isn't a mole.

to my understanding, learning starts from the tiniest level that a mind in hurry might disregard as too petty or not worth the time. one more lesson for me. thanks for sharing.
