Bible study: Not that I desire gifts, but I desire abundant fruit on your parts. Philippians 4:17

Spiritual gifts are progressive, gifts are lived because they imply growth. And this growth that comes from the progressive mentality produces fruits, that is, rewards and blessings. The bible explains that not only do we need to ask God for gifts, but also that the gifts received freely must bear fruit as in the parable of the talents. This is why Paul writes to us in the letter to the Philippians: Not that I desire gifts, but I desire abundant fruit on your parts. Philippians 4:17

The fruits to which Paul refers are listed in the letter to the Galatians, these fruits are the ultimate ends of human life and are opposed to the works of the flesh:
"The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissension, factions and envy, drunkenness, orgies and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law"; Galatians 5:19-23.
Bearing fruit means being rich towards God, having a good heart towards others and thus giving place to that love, which is the love of charity, the love projected towards the whole creation of God: "Charity is patient, charity is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self- seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs", 1 Corinthians 13:4.
When Jesus tells us about the Kingdom of God, he explains to us that the meaning of life is to increase the gifts, increase the blessedness and since the gifts are perfections, the meaning of life in other words would be to increase the order and perfection of the universe. This is why to follow Jesus it is so important to bear fruit, because for our fruits Jesus recognizes us.
