The gifts of the Holy Spirit: We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom

In the days of the early church, the city of Colosse near the city of Ephesus, had been evangelized by a disciple of Paul, Epaphras. But despite the evangelization, supposed teachers who brought ideas from paganism did not take long to arrive, recommending spiritual practices alien to the doctrine of the Kingdom of God.
For this reason, and to reinforce the evangelization already done, Paul wrote an epistle to the Church of this city. And so, that they would not fall into the error of pagan practices, Paul prayed that the gifts of the Holy Spirit would descend on the new believers of the Church and thus the faith would be strengthened, because the Holy Spirit is the doctor par excellence after the departure of our Lord Jesus.
With these words of blessing, Paul addressed the new Church in Asia:
"So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding" Colossians 1:9.
The spiritual gifts of the Holy Spirit are essential to grow in the knowledge of the spiritual realities and the mysteries of incarnation, because with them we live according to the spirit and we can please God: "You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you" Romans 8:9. The gifts are precision and accuracy, progressive thinking or continuous improvement, and life as taught by Jesus in John 14:6: "I am the way and the truth and the life."
The gifts and especially wisdom, as Paul indicated, are what guide us on the right path towards eternal life, the promise of Jesus, avoiding vain words that feed impiety and error. Like the first Christians, we too are invited to ask God for gifts and make them fruitful through the acts of daily life.
