Gin Tasting
IMG_2590.jpg
Just outside Stilbaai, there is a small Gin distillery, that offers a tour through their facility and also offers some tasting. I am no Gin drinker, but being on vacation and bumping into this place, we decided to go and have a look.

The gin we went to taste was Inverroche as can be seen on the beautiful sign above. Below is the reception area which is very classy.

The distillery itself however looks a bit disorganised!!

The distilling kettle is fired by normal wood. You can see the distilling kettle in the 1st photo.

Below you can see the bottling machine, which can only do 4 bottles at a time.
IMG_2599.jpg
Below is the sampling area, where you can sample the various gins. They produce 3 types of gin and one rum.

The plants below are used to flavor the gin, these plants grow in the wild in the area (except for the berries at the bottom), thus giving the gin a unique taste.

The photo below, shows one of the gins in the glass. We tasted each gin neat, and then they added a small piece of lime, orange, or lemon peel into the gin, which then changes the taste completely.

Here you can see a orange peel in the gin. After this they added some tonic water, which again alters the taste.

Below you can see the 3 gins in the bottles, they produce, Amber, Verdant and Classic gins.

The gin tasting experience was very nice, but I must admit it is not really to my liking, nevertheless we enjoyed the experience of tasting and seeing the process of gin making. The guide was very knowledgeable and very enthusiastic about the gin, which made the experience all the better.

I however think, I will just stick to my beer!!

I took these photos during my recent vacation to Jongensfontein, Western Cape Province, South Africa, using my iPhone.

I hope you enjoyed the photos as much as I did taking them.

Nice one. Do they allow you to buy gin from them directly, otherwise do they just produce and then sell to wholesalers.

You can buy directly from them. They also export to various places, you can see more by clicking Inverroche.

Awesome pics. But just as a question, will that orange peel be put that way into the gin, or would it be grinder first.

They just put it in like that, and it does make a real difference to the taste.
