Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has revealed her decision to end her 10-year relationship with partner Andrea Giambruno, a television journalist who has faced recent backlash for his sexist remarks.
Giambruno serves as the host of a Mediaset news program, and video clips from a recent off-air broadcast depict him using inappropriate language, engaging in inappropriate gestures, and making advances towards a female coworker. He inquires, "Why didn't I meet you earlier?"
In a separate recording, he can be heard purportedly suggesting to female coworkers that they might secure employment by participating in group activities of a sexual nature. He also informs the woman, who remains off-camera, "Do you know that (name redacted) and I are involved romantically? It's common knowledge across Mediaset, and now you're aware too."
"We're in search of a third person because we engage in threesomes and even foursomes. Would you be interested in joining our team?" he inquires.
In the previous month, Meloni conveyed to the press that she should not be held accountable for Giambruno's comments and indicated that she would refrain from responding to queries regarding his conduct in the future.
Meloni and Giambruno initially crossed paths in a TV studio back in 2014 and have a seven-year-old daughter together. This separation coincides with the 46-year-old prime minister marking her first year in office, leading a right-wing coalition government that staunchly upholds traditional family values as a central policy stance.
Meloni shared on her social media accounts, "My nearly decade-long relationship with Andrea Giambruno has come to an end. Our paths have been diverging for some time, and it's time to acknowledge it." She also expressed her gratitude to Giambruno, saying, "I appreciate the wonderful years we've shared, the challenges we've faced, and, most importantly, for blessing me with the most precious gift of all, our daughter, Ginevra."
