I see basically nothing that's worthwhile in conversion therapy. There is clearly a lot that is harmful about it, particularly in cases where adults subject children to it against their will.
But I can't agree with how the proponents are making their case for this law, and I can't say I agree with the law, either.
GLBT people are not "perfect," because no one is. And even if we do not consider homosexuality to be a disease, which I do not, some consenting adults might not want to experience same-sex attraction. I don't see anything wrong with them seeking to change what they experience. Everyone else is allowed to try to change what they experience in all kinds of different ways. Some of them work, and some of them don't, and some of them are more or less transparent frauds. (Hi there, Scientology!)
Note also: If we were to follow the argument being offered in favor of this law, we would have to say that being a ginger isn't a disease... and so hair coloring should be considered a form of fraud. Remember, science says that hair coloring won't work in the long term either!
That doesn't seem right, does it?
I believe we should all be free to make our own decisions regarding our sexuality. Pressurizing someone to do something or be something they don't want to be is wrong. If conversation therapy, which I believe in many cases, is being pushed onto people that don't want it. Then I am against it.
I don't think it should be banned either. If there are people that feel they need help with their sexuality and want to try conversation therapy they should be free to do so. They should also be aware that homosexuality is not a disease and, therefore, is not something that can be treated.
I believe personal honesty is better than intervention, there is nothing wrong with a bit of self exploration. Then again, a person may feel very comfortable with their sexuality and not want to explore which is also great.
Also, banning something will not mean that it won't happen. People will go elsewhere or become involved in some sort of underground conversion therapy which is likely to be more radical and more dangerous.

Good for you for having an open mind. Both of you have approached a potentially controversial topic with a great deal of maturity.
Unfortunately I lack that maturity and have this to say.
Make your choice:
Sausage between buns and a nice splash of mayo
or
Good old cream pie
Both options have their merits. Whatever the case don't be ashamed, be you!
