SKEPTA – HYPOCRISY
Apart from heading off on a seemingly fruity fashion bender of late, it looks like Skeppy’s found the time to get back in the studio. Monday saw him uploading this brand new jam “Hypocrisy” to Soundcloud. By the sounds of it, the Boy Better Know icon has had a lot on his mind over the past while.
Proclaiming; "They tried to disrespect me, when they’re online especially” and “Every day im shittin’ and pissin’ on this hypocrisy."
Getting a bit of grief at the top there skeppy? Naaaawww.
All lyrical content aside, having produced the track himself, Skepta is bringing the fire with both the beats and bars on this well over due drop. Hopefully this is the prelude to a new LP. Fingers crossed. 5/5
UZ & LI’L SILK – ON ME – LAYERS LP – QUALITY GOODS
The weekend saw a major announcement from arguably one of the biggest names in US Bass Music. The mysterious masked merchant of bass UZ has destroyed dance floor’s the world over, but on the weekend he came clean about the trials of being so secretive, thus unveiling his true identity as a French native going by the name of “G” to his die-hard fans for the first time.
At the beginning of the UZ project it was fun, but also really difficult to keep the identity secret. I had to hide, not speak too much, be discreet, walk behind everybody, and wait until everybody had gone to be able to leave the club.
Imagine the awkwardness that came with wearing a mask when it came to post gig sexy time too? Mask on? Mask off? Food for thought.
Anyways…His unveiling comes as part of the promotion for his new album “Layers” which dropped on his Quality Goods imprint a couple of days ago and features colabs with names like Elliphant, Oski & Craze, Foreign Beggars and our very own Quix. For me one of the standout tracks is this moody mumbler featuring ATL rapper L’il Silk. I’ve been all over L’il silk’s music for the last couple of years so instantly gravitated toward this colab. UZ fans will also be stoked to know he’s touching down in NZ next month. Keep it locked to George for more details on that! In the meantime, check the single and full album on spotify: 4/5
MONTELL 2099 & 21 SAVAGE – HUNNID ON THE DROP
The meteoric rise of this man! Montell 2099 has carved out a place for himself in NZ and global electronica over the last few years, from humble beginnings in KatiKati to taking the stage with world famous rappers in the states and nailing everything else in between.
All accolades aside Montell still remains the softly spoken beat freak from little old NZ when it comes to yarning about his achievements. 2 weeks ago he appeared at the Red bull Sound Select secret show in Los Angeles alongside Rapper 21 Savage to perform their brand new collaboration “Hunnid On The Drop” to critical acclaim. I’m a big fan of the production on this track more than I am of 21’s bars but the end result is a moody little head nodder peppered with a catchy chorus. Regardless this drop is drenched in kudos and im sure all ya’ll will join in sending a massive “big ups” to one of NZ’s leading producers.

DJ ZINC – JICARILLA JAM – PLUMP DJ’S LDN SELECTION – PUNKS MUSIC
A couple of weeks back I had UK Bass legends Plump DJ’s join me on George Nights for a guest mix and yarn about their brand new “LDN Selection” compilation on Punks Music. The album finally dropped last week and it’s stacked with more sub heavy heaters than you can poke a hot stick at.
The guys have handpicked a selection of some of their artists from the UK Bass scene, including two new tracks from the Plump catalogue “Skylon” and “World Click”. Featuring music from a slew of producer’s including Stranger, Daze Prism, and Badjokes, the LDN Selection has something for everyone. But the real standout tune for me has to be from the man himself DJ Zinc. Jicarilla Jam is an Apache and Amen infused hat tip to the rave days of old delivered in true Zinc fashion. Definitely one for the playlist, check out the full selection below:

DJ SHIFTEE – VAN FULL OF DRUGS - BOOMBAP & BEYOND E.P. – HOTMOM USA
“This Is New York” with DJ Shiftee on George FM Nights is the show that keeps you up to date with the hottest music coming out of the NYC club scene.
