Go Club Evening at Pub Hiidenkivi

in go-club •  7 years ago  (edited)

@gamer00 couldn't make it today. I hosted the club evening instead of him. By hosting I mean just turning up for the irregulars to have someone to play against in case they show up. If you want to keep a club alive it is of utmost important to keep the meetings regular.

Anyway, Antti, 1 dan, showed up. We played a couple of games. I lost the first one and won the second one. Antti was too tired to play a third one, so I gave him a ride home. The previous owner of our house had received a letter from the waterworks delivered to the old address. I used the opportunity to deliver it on the way home as they now live in the same general direction as Antti. Got some more useful tips concerning the house.

Here's the first game between Antti and myself. I was white in both games. Only a half point komi so this was a handica game.

That's my magnetic travel set. The board is made of metal and there are small magnets in the bottom of the stones.

It's looking better for white in my assessment at this juncture.

Black invades and a fight follows.

White comes ahead from this.

White makes an error and the life of white's stones penetrating blacks territory depend on a ko.</center

Black wins the ko and white doesn't even get much in compensation. It's looking bad for white. White, however, decides to engage in sorcery in the lower left.

A series of tesujis and some good luck white manages to live in seki with the group near the lower left side. But it is not enough and black eventually wins. Well done, Antti!

Another game (the second one we played) after the post-game counting is done. White wins.

Sort Order:

Is there a great difference between first dan and the third one?
Can I win the fifth dan player being only the first one?
As you already know I'm really smart, so I'd probably have a chance to win.

The average 1 dan would have about 25% chance of winning the average 3 dan. But it would depend on the playing styles of the individual players, too, and of course whether or not they were strong or weak for someone holding their rank.

I have a feeling when you've started to learn this game there is no turning back.
Especially when you play at the level of dan.
Improving your skills over and over again.

Yes, it's an addiction. I'd love to create a Smart Media Token for go tutorials, analysis, commentary and amateur tournament reporting, and have Korean speculators irrationally drive its price to the moon allowing me to gain something of a side income from it. ;)

I wonder what would happen if you tried to organise online Go tournaments on steemit. Or create new Go challenge so you find more people who like to play. And organise Go meetups in Finland. Promotion team would love it and upvote you.

The games would have to be played on proper go servers elsewhere but all the reporting and pairing the players could be on Steemit. Also, a go challenge is an idea worth exploring, too. As far as I know, only two Finnish go players are on Steemit. There is a third one in Tampere whom I met last July who said he was going to create a Steem account for himself. I haven't heard of him since. He is a member of my old club but as I don't live there any longer, haven't for years, I'm not in regular contact with the people over there. But I'll see what I can do.

Sometimes I surprise myself how many great ideas can I make in one day.
I'm looking forward to the Go community to grow in the future.

how much time do you have playing GO @markkujantunen? , btw have you thought about using dtube to podcast a match, It would be interesting think about it.

I play just a few games per week these days. Work, family and other hobbies including Steem take up the time. Now, the podcasting idea is an interesting one. But I think it would have to be a quick game in order for it to not bore most observers out of their skulls.

Have you played with a foreign who is good in go game before?

When I play on the Internet, nearly all of my opponents are from other countries. And yes, there are plenty of players at my level or higher out there on go servers. I've also played a lot of foreign players stronger than myself in international tournaments in Finland and abroad.

Looking like very complex game
can i find the rules some place?

An interactive course. Not just the rules.

I've always wondered about Go. That website is very informative. I think I have a basic idea now about the game. I also know about ladders and eyes. When I have more time, I'll continue with the tutorials. :)

I've noticed this doesn't work for me anymore. It was the best site to recommend to newbies when it worked though.

I wonder if Go Child (Login w/Google) Entrance level tsumegos are of help when introducing someone to Go. After all they are very easy.

Looking like great way to spend the evening, have fun

Thats cool, I wish we could cross our paths at some point too :D, have a nice time xx
