About Victor Hugo and his work "Les Misérables"

The noble gesture of the pious bishop transforms Jean Valjean, who has, in his lifetime, confronted only with the inexorable guardians of the law and the humiliating zeal of his suspicious and evil pursuers. Realizing his guilt, overwhelmed by painful remorse of conscience, the ex-clerk decides to break with his former lifestyle, rehabilitate people with entrepreneurial and honest labor and live as a decent man.
