Environmentalists plan suit over harm to endangered species from Bonnet Carre Spillway

The national Defenders of Wildlife and the New Orleans-based Healthy Gulf contend that the Corps of Engineers and Mississippi River Commission have failed for years to consult with federal wildlife agencies about the diverted water's potential effects on federally protected species, even after it became clear that the diversion was being opened more often.

Interesting article about potential lawsuits as a result of the Corps opening the Bonnet Carre Spillway near New Orleans. This suit is kind of laughable, the Corp has no choice but to open the spillway, after all they can't let the City of New Orleans flood causing the death of countless people and the destruction of billions of dollars in damage. A possible solution to having to open the spillway would be to built fresh water diversions up and down the River, something that is badly needed anyway......
