We heard a rumour that there is gold in Wolfe Lake near Westport Ontario. So we grabbed our prospecting tools, pans, metal detectors, kayaks and headed out.
We spent the day exploring many of the granite outcrops along the North Shore and noticed many large Quartzite veins running through the bedrock on the bottom of the lake … a good sign of gold. Unfortunately we did not bring our Scuba gear on this trip.
We paddled for hours testing the rocks with our Garrett Metal Detectors and collected a few samples to test.
Large Quartz crystals embedded in the bedrock….
Along one area of the shore, in about 2 feet of water, the bottom seemed to be glittering with gold. We reached in and grabbed what we could … we quickly realized that it was mica. These are in the photos above.
So, no gold yet but we have many quartz samples to go through and some black sand to pan.
Stay tuned for more …
