Travel Photography - Kashmir

Dawn is one of my favourite times of the day. The silence, especially out in the countryside, feels like a breath held in anticipation and hope. Awaiting the sunrise, that age old symbol of a brand new day; of a fresh beginning.

There's something mesmerising about watching the sky gradually lighten, to see the bald head of the sun poke through the horizon, bringing with it a multitude of colours. And with the sun's arrival, the world comes slowly awake; the birds ruffling their feathers on their perches before spreading wide their wings to soar into the sky.

This photograph was taken in India, up in teeth-chattering cold Kashmir where beauty could be found almost everywhere I cared to look. It was beautiful and sometimes it can be hard to equate India with beauty. But outside of the crowded urban areas, India is full of wide open spaces, of hills and mountains and valleys, of lush green plains and barren deserts, of flowers in perpetual bloom and wildlife that behave as if they are the true rulers of the land.

I'm not a professional photographer or even a skilled amateur but I do believe that certain scenes just have to be captured, regardless of your particular skillset or lack thereof. I have a million sunrise captured for all time in my mind's eye but this is one of those I managed to document. I hope you enjoy it.
