The Coin of Fate

Oh, what a strange and fickle thing is love,
That makes us soar on wings of joy and pain,
That binds us to the earth or lifts above,
That fills our hearts with bliss or drives insane.

And what a dark and dreadful thing is hate,
That makes us shun the light and seek the night,
That blinds us to the truth or seals our fate,
That fills our souls with rage or fear or spite.

But love and hate are two sides of one,
A coin that fate has tossed into the air,
And we must take the chance of what has spun,
And face the consequence of what we bear.

For some may love the things that are unkind,
And some may hate the things that are divine,
And some may find no peace in either mind,
And some may see no difference in the line.

But all must pay the price of what they choose,
And all must reap the harvest of their deeds,
And all must learn the lesson of the muse,
That love and hate are but two similar seeds.
