The good king: For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. Psalm 72:12

The Psalm 72 is a prayer addressed to God requesting that the Lord, as the creator of all things, grant his grace to the King, so that he as ruler of his nation may personify, that is, do in his person, the righteousness and mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness) of God. Psalm 72 is in a certain sense an invocation to the Kingdom of God, the dominion or empire of God's perfections.
Because it is the main function of the King to establish the good of peace, and with it the goods of prosperity and justice among his subjects. Because just as there is no greater blessing than a monarch who fears God; there is no greater curse than a tyrant who establishes terror, oppression, and lies. The fool and the wise man are opposing figures who establish systems of government completely opposite to each other, the fool the tyranny, the wise the monarchy. Tradition considers this Psalm as a hymn dedicated to the enthronement of the wise King Solomon, a king who, due to his wisdom, was an example for all others who followed him.
That is why the Psalm begins with these beautiful words:
"Endow the king with your justice, O God,
the royal son with your righteousness.
May he judge your people in righteousness,
your afflicted ones with justice" Psalm 72:1-2.
The Psalm continues to explain in a metaphorical way that blessedness, immortality (longevity), and glory correspond to the rule of the wise. And it is the wise man who has the task as a ruler to rehabilitate the oppressed and the hopeless, as the psalm states:
"For he will deliver the needy who cry out,
the afflicted who have no one to help.
He will take pity on the weak and the needy
and save the needy from death.
He will rescue them from oppression and violence,
for precious is their blood in his sight" Psalm 72:12-14.
The Psalm ends with praise to God and the King, because God blesses the King, and the King governs.
