Breakout country star Cam showed up at Good Morning America on Tuesday, April 3, to perform her new song "Diane," which was written as a response to Dolly Parton's iconic 1973 tune "Jolene."
While "Jolene" is written from the perspective of a wife asking another woman not to take her man, "Diane" takes the viewpoint of the other woman, who doesn't realize the man she's dating is married.

"It's the apology so many spouses deserve, but never get," Cam told Rolling Stone. "The other woman is coming forward to break the news to the wife about an affair, respecting her enough to have that hard conversation, once she realized he was married ... and in true country fashion, I've set the whole raw story to upbeat music, so you can dance while you process it all."
Last October, Cam told People that she was nervous about the idea of Dolly hearing the tune. "I’m really nervous to show her!" she said. "I want to preface it [with a letter] and give her a chance to absorb it and see what she thinks."
But it seems she had no reason to be nervous, because Dolly loved the song, even writing Cam a thank you note back in February. "Pretty flowers, sweet words, good song! Thanks for all of them. You are so talented, and I enjoyed working with you," Dolly wrote.

But Dolly wasn't done with the praise—while Cam was getting ready to perform "Diane" on GMA yesterday, host Paula Faris told her that the country icon had a special message for the country newcomer.
