Random Acts of Kindness Day!

February 17th is RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS DAY! Instead of just imagining a better world, you can create one, through kindness! A small act of random kindness can change a person’s day, in ways you never imagined.

I truly believe that kindness can change the world. Today, people connect electronically, this reduces personal interaction. That is not to say that social media can’t result in personal connection. Steemit, for example, is a forum where people can truly share and get to know each other. But, it lacks human touch.

People have a basic need for an emotional connection with others. A simple act of kindness, can help fill this need. It can be a simple nod of the head, a hi, or a smile as you pass someone on the street. Our facial expressions are the key vehicle through which we convey emotion. Smiling is beneficial to our wellbeing for it activates the areas of our brain responsible for happiness.

While you are unable to see my facial expression in my written word, I can still share a smile with you electronically.

Hopefully, everyone will find a way to perform at least one act of kindness today. If you are out and about you will find opportunities to perform an act of kindness for a total stranger. It can be holding a door open, paying for the person behind you in line at the coffee shop, leaving a larger tip than normal to a waiter, visiting a friend or relative or giving a gift to someone. The act can be as unique as you are!

If you are stuck indoors today, you can still perform an act of kindness. If you live with others you can do something to bring a smile to their face, give them a hug or just share a laugh. You can donate on line to your favorite charity, send a virtual hug to a friend, or make a phone call to catch up with a friend or family. The possibilities are only limited by your own frame of mind.

The bonus of performing acts of kindness is that it will also have a positive effect on you. So, being kind to others will make your day more enjoyable. While today is a day that makes us aware of being kind, it is my hope and wish that everyone who reads this makes it a daily habit. Imagine how wonderful the world would be if there was more kindness!

I would love it if you shared a personal story of an act of kindness you performed today!

This is so inspiring and motivated. Kindness is the essence of being human being. I appreciate your quality thoughts and positive attitude towards fellow being. Thank you:)

I love the phrase "essence of being human being," it is a common connection we all have regardless of race, ethnicity, or religion. It is our core commonality that we should focus on instead of our differences.

Oh, I missed Random Acts of Kindness Day, but I'll build it into my life in general even more than I already do. Thanks for reminding all of us that being kind to others is the best way to behave.

I’m delighted to hear that even thought you missed Random Act of Kindness Day, you have embraced the spirit of the day by building more kindness into your life.

This is a beautiful post and in a way a random act of kindness itself. By posting this you are responsible for many people, including myself, who are going to go out there and spread the love. That is amazing!

"How do we change the world? Through an ARK, Act of Random Kindness"

Thank you, for your kind words. It is the ripple effect in action, you in turn will have a positive impact on someone else and they will pass on to another.

I helped a mother in church yesterday. During service her son who looked to be 15 was misbehaving. She hide tried to reason with him for a few minutes until she was very cross with him. Even so the boy persisted. Now they were sitting right in front of me. I felt that I would be failing her and him by not helping. So I pulled the boy close to me and whispered in his ear "If you don't listen to your mother behave yourself right this moment, I will give you a hiding in front of everyone and your mother will not stop me". It's a bit hash I know but it worked. Reasoning with him failed so that was the other only option... so that's how I helped a lady in church.

I didn't realize that it was RAK day yesterday, but I did hold the door for an older gentleman at my son's cub scout event. So, I unknowingly celebrated the day! Haha. I think we should all do more random acts of kindness. You never know how a simple gesture can improve the mood of someone else.

You are setting a great example for your kids! I bet there were a lot of good deeds occurring yesterday at the cub scout event.

When I saw the title of this post, I wondered, But why do we need a day to remind us to be kind? Why not make it a daily habit?

Wouldn't it be neat if we didn't need a Random Acts of Kindness Day, since random acts of kindness would be our default mode of operation?

I mentioned this elsewhere, and it bears paraphrasing here:

"I've heard it asked, 'Which would you rather be, smart or kind?'

My response: 'If you're smart, you'll be kind'"
