GOOD NEWS! Art protecting the oceans

Museo Atlántico

Museo Atlántico in the Atlantic ocean off the coast of Spain is a place of refuge for marine life and nature. Jason deCaires Taylor created an underwater world with his sculptures – a thought-provoking world. Thru Taylors work pierces the appeal to protect and oceans and its life.

The sculptures are made of pH neutral concrete. This special material makes it possible for an artificial riff to develop. Marine plants and animals are getting additional room to live and procreate. 1 ½ years ago the sculptures were installed and anchored – and indeed scientists are able to observe a growth in plants, marine animals and fish.

Kraken, sharks, barracudas and different sea sponge are interested in discovering Museo Atlántico and are settling around the U-Park.

Location

The museum with its 200 life-sized sculptures stretches over an area of 2500 square meters and is accessible for scuba divers – a touristic and cultural sight in 12m depth, in cristal clear water - in front of the bay of Las Colorados, in Lazarote.
