Mark Cuban is teaming up with Goalsetter for Black History Month to give 1-million kids their first savings account. The finance app is partnering with the National Basketball Players Association, pro athletes, influencers and organizations on a campaign they call “Drafted.”
Goalsetter says the goal is to “draft 1-million black and brown kids to financial freedom by providing them their first savings account with $40 already deposited.” From there, the kids will have access to the financial literacy content on Goalsetter, which includes a kids’ section with quizzes and games that teach financial education, and they’ll also get a debit card backed by MasterCard.
The company hopes giving kids their first savings account will help lead to a better future for them. According to Goalsetter, children who have savings accounts are four times more likely to own stocks as young adults and six times more likely to go to college.
