Woman Sells Crochet Bernie Doll For Over $20K, Donates To Charity

You know all those memes of Bernie Sanders from the inauguration? A Texas woman crocheted [[crow-shade]] a doll that looks just like the bundled-up Vermont Senator did, down to his olive green coat and brown mittens. Tobey King nailed it and her handmade Bernie doll became a big hit of its own.

The artisan says she already had a Bernie pattern and a Bernie doll, so she modified that to recreate his exact look and spent about seven hours crocheting it. The 46-year-old posted photos of the nine-inch doll to her Instagram account, where it got thousands of likes and comments. Then she posted the doll for sale on eBay, where it sold for $20-thousand, three-hundred.

And the best part? King is donating the 20-grand to Meals on Wheels America. She was inspired to give to the nonprofit after the Sanders campaign created a sweatshirt with his viral image on it and donated all the profits to Meals on Wheels in Vermont. King says she hopes Bernie approves and “thinks this is something cool.”
