I always enjoyed that show, even when I was a teen. Most of my age-mates didn't care for it, but I liked the variety of music and dancing and the fancy costumes. And I had a crush on Tom Netherton for a couple of years.

My parents watched it every Saturday night, along with Porter Wagoner (VERY country, Dolly Parton made her TV Debut on that show) and even "the Stonemans" as country as you could get. Papa Stoneman playing an autoharp, one sister playing the stand up bass fiddle (she went on to be a regular on Hee Haw, though not a musician there) another sister playing the mandolin (blond in short skirts) and a rhythm guitar player.
Now you have my music history on TV @scribblingramma

I don't remember Porter Wagoner, but I do remember Hee Haw.

That is Porter Wagoner introducing Dolly Parton to the world, pretty much unknown before that

Thanks for the audio/visual aid!

As always, I am happy to be of help when I can @scribblingramma

This is the Stonemans, Ronnie (the banjo player) became a regular character on Hee Haw (the ugly housewife usually doin' the ironing)

Guess I completely missed out on the Stonemans back then! But I do remember the ugly housewife on Hee Haw.

Yes, and they sure made her look ugly too. Those were some of the funnier skits to me.
That and "What's fer Supper Grandpa?" (shouted by unseen people) then grandpa Jones would answer something like:
"well we got turnip greens, corn bread and fatback" (unseen people go )umm UMM, that sounds good [or something like that]

Grandpa Jones and that good ol' mountain dew would be a good followup tune here.

We aim to please

I always got a kick out of it when they would stand up in the cornfield to salute someone's hometown.

We still aim to please
