Namaskar or namaste has been derived from sanskrit word Namaha which means resect or paying honour.It is an ancient form of greeting which is practiced in India even today.
Namaskar is done by bringing the palm together near the chest or face and bowing slightly and namaskar or namaste is said to the person who is greeted.

namaskar or namaha is physical action of expressing superiority.The greetings of namaskar is when the soul of one person realize and pay respect to the soul in other.
By doing the hand gesture a very high level of divine consciousness is achieved by the body.
There is no physical contact while greeting or saying namaste.With absence of physical contact the chances of passing negativity to another person is minimised.

Eyes should be closed while doing it.
