This is happening tomorrow! Google Cloud Next'18 - definitely one of my bucket list of things to do (tech related) alongside attending WWDC. Yes, I know. I'm an Apple fanboy. :p
This conference has a relatively young history, dating 'all the way back' to 2017, which drew up a crowd of more than 11,000 people! This year they included some interesting industry leaders from this side of the world. I would like to make a mention to 2 of which grabbed my attention.
Ajey Gore - Group Chief Technology Officer from Go-Jek. This ride-hailing company grabbed my attention ever since the merge of Uber and Grab in Malaysia. According to my wife, they've been around for quite awhile. Well, since the merge there has literally been little competition to Grab's monopoly in the ride-hailing market. What I've heard is prices are creeping up and Go-Jek seems like a big enough player to come in and give them some good competition.
Aireen Omar - Deputy Group CEO. Our very own, born and bred - Malaysian! AirAsia, known for its slogan "Now Everyone Can Fly", has been a strong player in the aviation industry in this region. The business has expanded to countries beyond Malaysia with destinations all over the world. Her rise to leading a staff of 7,000 across 16 hubs is no coincidence. I'm sure she'll do us proud when she shares her wealth of knowledge and experience.
Guess who else is there as well? A little bird told me - LEDGIT. Can't wait to hear or see if the rumour is true. ;)
Oh, and did I mention that my favorite NBA is Golden State Warriors (bandwagon fan, who cares)? That's more than enough reason to check this off my bucket list! :)
