I think everyone should read this article. ⬆️⬆️⬆️
It makes powerful points about hypocrisy and it’s probably the reason Google infamously abused its power for the billionth time and demonetized The Federalist two days ago.
There ARE big flaws in the article.
- It doesn’t point out that SARS is real. It puts people in the hospital and it does kill people. We cannot just ignore that no matter who we are. It’s real and it’s real dangerous and real deadly.
- It ignores the logic we learned as children. Just because someone jumps off a cliff doesn’t mean you should do the same.
NO ONE SHOULD BE GATHERING IN BIG GROUPS.
The people who are doing so are irresponsible and are spreading disease. But just because two million people are acting irresponsibly does not mean that the other 348 million should say “fuck it!” and do the same.
Especially just to do something they have always done out of habit and not real need. - There is a difference between group gatherings for unprecedented protests by people who feel unheard, who don’t have TV channels and a $5 trillion (now $10 trillion a year) budget and Donald Trump, who stunk up the airwaves with his idiotic press conferences spreading a combination of useful trivia and useless lunacy (injecting bleach, sticking a light inside your body) every day.
Does Trump REALLY need to do a rally to be heard?
Is it for a publicly useful purpose with no self gain OR is it for a selfish purpose that has nothing to do with doing his job? - The article does not talk or endorse about ANY of the other advice of public health officials. They were totally wrong to endorse protests (that part of this essay is 100% correct) and yes they ARE hypocrites.
But the hypocrites were NOT wrong that we should be wearing masks and not touching and not going out sick or coughing and not touch, etc.
The writer throws the baby of ALL ADVICE out with the bath water.
I could go on but you get the point.
Everyone should read it, then find their way back to the golden mean, the middle point.
And Google should be held responsible for EVERYTHING it monetizes OR have zero say. It cannot just delete or demonetize some things on a self-serving whim and still be immune to any consequences.
That’s called privilege.
