I don't know a single technologist who thinks thinks google is even close to a monopoly. Their market dominance is based on being the best, not on lack of options.
Trump's DOJ (along with some Republican Governer's in Trump-friendly states) has filed an anti-trust action against Google.
The suit is nonsense and includes this doozy of a complaint:
"Entering into long-term agreements with Apple that require Google to be the default – and de facto exclusive – general search engine on Apple’s popular Safari browser and other Apple search tools."
iOS allows you to use Google, Yahoo, Bing, or DuckDuck go for your search engine. My iPhone has been set to use Yahoo as the default search engine for years.
The DOJ's specific complaints are:
Google has deals with various manufacturers to use Google as the default search engine.
Google pays to have their search engine featured in "prime locations on mobile devices (that seems like a repeat of #1) and "makes them undeletable". Can anyone confirm that they own a device in which Google Search is pre-configured and is unchangeable?
Google is the default search engine iPhones and iPads. (Again, seems like a repeat of #1)
They pay companies for "preferential treatment" (i.e., default search engine) on "devices, web browsers, and other search access points". (Again, this seems like a repeat of #1).
The entire complaint appears to be: "Google pays companies to be the default search engine in web browsers".
This is yet another election stunt.
It is not a coincidence that Trump's persuaded Bill Bar to file the suit two weeks before the election.
