Many of you reading this obviously use and love GoogleKeep. If, like me, you have acquired a LOT of GoogleKeep notes over time you will find that although they are almost instantly available on your laptop/desktop, trying to load the application on your mobile phone even while on wifi is an absolute disaster.
There is a solution and it requires the use of the very underused and poorly understood "Archive" feature. the "Label" feature is also an important part of optimising the mobile user's experience.
It's important to understand that the GoogleKeep "Archive" feature does not remove the labelling that you have already applied to the note, it simply removes the note from your GoogleKeep homepage and keeps the homepage clean. There is therefore no detriment in archiving ALL of your notes and in fact unless it is a note you actually want to see on your home page all the time. Given that there are downsides to having too much content on your GoogleKeep home page it is therefore a good practice to archive and label new notes AS soon as you create them.
Archiving ALL your GoogleKeep notes seems to release the burden of memory for your mobile device to be able to display the GoogleKeep home page properly and instantly on a mobile device.
PROCEDURE:
If you have certain favourite notes (e.g. shopping check lists) that you always want on your home page simply "pin" them to the GoogleKeep home page first.
To archive your entire note collection, while on your laptop/desktop, go to your GoogleKeep home page, click on the page and then press Command-A (Ctrl-A on PC) to select ALL notes (deselect any pinned notes by holding the Command key and deselecting them one by one).
Let go of the Command key and press the icon for "Archive" in the top right of the screen. Your notes will be archived and your GoogleKeep home page will be automatically cleaned up.
Now go to your mobile device and open GoogleKeep. You should find that the home page (with pinned notes) appears instantly.
You can once again makes quick notes while you are on the go. Your GoogleKeep archived notes are also still conveniently available even from your mobile device as long as you have "labelled" them.
If you have a LOT of GoogleKeep notes in your archive your mobile device will still struggle to open the Archive folder, so get in the habit of labelling all your notes so they can be easily available from your mobile device at all times.
I hope this helps you as much as it has helped me, I do love using GoogleKeep and it was frustrating to not be able to access it instantly on my mobile phone. Don't forget ...don't be afraid to use the "Archive" and "Label" feature ALL the time to keep your notes tidied away and let your mobile device use GoogleKeep effectively.
