Apparently, not enough people were using it, according to Google.
This perk launched in 2020, but initially required a pricier storage plan. Thankfully, it became accessible with all Google One subscriptions (including the basic one) in 2023. Bummer it's going away now!
The VPN worked on iPhones, Androids, and even Macs/PCs in select countries. ♀️ Google hasn't revealed the exact shut-down date, but they're focusing on more popular features for Google One instead.
Pixel users, don't fret! You can still access the free Pixel VPN through your device settings (Pixel 7 and newer).
