When Google unveiled its cloud gaming platform 'Stadia' on GDC 2019, the whole ICI industry is paying attention.

Google has announced it will launch 'Stadia' this year. Phil Harrison, vice president of Google, also unveiled a dedicated controller at the GDC 2019 site, and announced that Google is about to make a move for StarDia.

'Stadia' is a platform where you can enjoy games with 4K resolution and 60 frames per second everywhere. Users can connect to a Google server without having to purchase a separate console and play games directly on their TV, PC, laptop, or smart phone.

Because of this, the PC hardware market is struck by the emergence of "Stadia".

Since 'Stadia' is a game running on a Google server, users need only have devices that can receive game video from any network. In using 'Stadia', the only thing you care about your hardware is whether your display supports 4K resolution and the network speed that affects the input delay.

In particular, hardware that directly affects game performance, such as a CPU and a GPU, is likely to suffer direct hit. Most hardware manufacturers announce the performance of their CPUs and GPUs through game performance. That means that game users are taking a big part in the PC hardware market.

Since 2018, CPU and GPU makers are suffering from a decrease in sales. Even NVIDIA, which has an overwhelming share of over 80% in the game graphics card market, announced that its sales have been decreasing since the second half of last year. In particular, gaming GPU sales dropped 45% year-on-year.

In addition, NVIDIA has announced that overall sales in 2019 will be slightly lower than last year. This means that sales of gaming GPUs will continue to suffer this year.

On the other hand, 'Stadia' is a new opportunity for display manufacturers. This is why the new market is opened when 'Stadia' popularizes the 4K gaming environment.

"The current gaming display market is focused on creating high-refresh rate panels at FHD resolution because the 4K gaming market is small and there are not many buyers," an official from a display manufacturer said.

"The 4K gaming market is not spreading because it costs a lot of money to build an environment to run 4K games, but if you can play 4K games through 'Stadia' without buying CPUs and GPUs, I will have more room to buy a 4K display. "
