Psalm 119:105-106

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet,
and a light unto my path.
I have sworn, and I will perform it,
that I will keep thy righteous judgments.

God's word is the building block for all life. But for the Word to profit us, we must do more with the Word than just keep his written words under a pillow. We need to treasure it much like one would any of their valuable possession. When one is given something of value like the world valued BitCoin; we keep it in a safe place, watch over it from time to time, and the heart is constantly focused on that thing.

People feel that just because they are part of a local assembly, all should be well. They also think that just because they have committed to memory a few verses, they should be blessed. Being a part of a ministry and serving there is a beautiful thing but it isn't sufficient to invoke the power of the Blessing. One needs something extra and the Master tells us what that is.

In Luke 11:28 the Master says, "But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the Word of God, and keep it." The word "blessed" means to be fortunate, well off and to flourish. It is important to understand how this person gets to become well off and flourish by the Word. Let's summarise what Jesus said 'They hear and keep it'. To hear is relatively easy, one has got to hear, listen, give attention to the word. Everybody does that well. But here is were we need to improve - its the keeping part. Bible commentators say that "keeping", in this verse means 'to do the Word'. In other word to flourish, be well off and to be fortunate, one must hear the Word and do it. QED. But, that's not the way.

How does an unloving person, ruled by the senses, walk in the love of God? How does an impatient person become patient? How can a natural man walk in spiritual reality? Impossible. God's ways are not magical, they are spiritual.

Taken from the Words of Jesus from Luke 11:28 "But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it." God's Word is capable of doing extra ordinary things, but it requires several factors. For the purpose of this message we will touch briefly on all but not in a great detail. The human heart is the place where the Word is planted and where it brings forth fruits. It is the core, the spirit, the hidden man of the heart. When does the Word produce results in lives?

Though the word 'keep' means mostly 'to do'. Many more things should happen before anybody is propelled into action by the Word. Firstly, the Word is received, then it is watched over much like when an farmer is watching over his precious seeds and protecting them from the environment, then it is nurtured and watered, and given time to grow. Before we gave our hearts to Christ and received the message of His grace, we were primarily ruled by the senses. But when we saw His light and embraced His love, our life source ceases to be the soul but the spirit man.

I have discovered that before one can be successfully led of the Word, we first need to receive the Word, 'digest' it, until it becomes a part of us. Until this has taken place over a period of time, all we have is religion. We must become one with the Word.

God's Word is designed to invoke the blessedness of the Lord in our lives. Therefore, our theme scripture should read thus for clarity - 'Blessed are they which hear the Word and have submitted themselves to the lordship of the Word'.
