🔸 Game Of Thrones S07E07: Did The Finale Save The Season?

Thankfully The Finale Lived Up To The Hype

In my opinion this season was really underwhelming overall. Spoils of War was a good episode with a field battle, there were also other good moments, but for most of the season things didn't make sense, geography was thrown out the window, and characters did things seemingly for no reason. Especially last week's episode, it was completely incoherent and felt like something straight out of a fanfic. I'm glad to say the show bounced back with the finale.

The Dragon Pit

The Dragon Pit scene, although a little slow-paced, was pretty satisfying. Characters behaved exactly as you'd expect them to, there was a little tease for Cleganebowl at the start, which was great. The short conflict that happened between Jon and Cersei I felt really wasn't necessary. We all already knew Jon bent the knee to Dany, and the problem was going to be solved in literally minutes. Felt like an unnecessary fan service for the shippers, but that's if I want to be nit-picky.

Jaime's Redemption

Finally we get a true redemption for Jaime's character. He finally abandoned his sister and stayed to true to his word. Seeing him walk past the Zombie Mountain was just beautiful. We've been waiting for a Jaime redemption for a while, and thankfully it was worth the wait.

Theon's Redemption

This episode was great in terms of character development. Theon finally grows a pair (lol) and rallies the iron born to head off and rescue his sister Yara from the dungeons of the Red Keep. This was long overdue, I'm glad we're finally seeing a glimpse of the old Theon who marched with Robb way back in Seasons 1 and 2.

Epic Boat Sex

I'm not sure how I feel about the Jon and Dany romance going on. Now seems like a bad time for a romance with a ridiculously OP enemy marching towards you, that's not to mention the incest...

But I can't complain, the episode was refreshing. It's amazing how inconsistend Dan and Dave are. Both episodes 6 and 7 were written by them, and while episode 6 looked like a fanfic that took a few minutes to think of, episode 7 was actually really refreshing. And they also managed to deliver some action with East Watch falling. I'm not sure it's entirely realistic to bring down a giant wall off ice with fire in a matter of seconds, but that's a post for another day...
