So by now we should all know that minimum wage will be increase starting January 2018 which could be a bad thing for small businesses and will effect inflation. But what about people with disabilities both developmental and physical. I'll use my story for an example. I'm a person who uses a program called passport from developmental services Ontario. Passport is a program created to help people with developmental disabilities higher a worker of there own choosing where they ca chose to work on things to improve their Independence or help to carry out there physiotherapy program, both children can utilize this program and adults. I've used this program as an adult and a child, when i was a child my mom highered a worker to help with after school activities and physiotherapy. As an adult i used the program to higher a worker to help me with my writing and help me to do my youtube videos and one day through doing this, hopefully I will be able to sell one of my fiction books and grow as an artist. But most of ll this program has made me feel productive and grow as an artist it has given me a reason to get up in the morning and meet with my worker. With minimum wage increased this could deeply impact my funding because I have to pay the worker first and then i send in an invoice and they pay me back. Now i understand the program cannot be responsible for the whole wage but with the cost with living, where am i going to make a difference. But its not just about me, what about the parents that use this program for their children. If the government is going to raise the responsibility of the employers they need to be held to account as well, when Ive reached out to the women is the ministry of community social services I was told that they couldn't share a letter written by me to other clients because I was going to scare people. And the fact of the matter is, scare them with what? The truth? Just to give you the numbers aspect of it i only get 7825$ for the physical year and i pay my teammate 13$ an hour which is minimum wage and I'm paying 80$ a month out of my odsp plus I have to pay 100$ a month for medication that is not covered by the government. So I ask you readers how would the members work?
