As someone who has always been against the High Speed Rail project in California, this graphic just rubs salt in the corrupt government wound that we've had to put up with for the past decade.
I'm sure all of Jerry Brown and Newsom's cronies are making out like bandits with all the money flowing to them to create concrete monoliths that will never be utilized.
There's zero incentive for government to ever run efficiently or create anything of value.
It's all a con to line the pockets of the influential now, as seen by so many increasing their net worths by tens and hundreds of millions of dollars AFTER they get into office.
And the government will only ever expand, like the Borg in Star Trek, demanding everything to be assimilated in the process.
Unfortunately, the only solution is to dismantle much of it, resulting in mass layoffs and bankrupted pensions.
Otherwise, it will all eventually implode on itself as all innovation is ground to a halt from so much regulation and taxation that still can't cover the debt payments.
I think Elon proved that billion dollar departments can be gutted and ran more effectively with his overhaul of Twitter, showing that 80%+ of the staff were completely useless.
My guess is that most government departments could run with 90% less people and update them with software and processes that actually work.
Gonna be a wild ride if Trump wins and Elon is unleashed on the bureaucratic beast as the Director of Government Efficiency.
I'm sure they'll both have plenty of attempts on their lives as the machine won't go down without a fight.
