I keep seeing articles expressing lament or surprise at the lack of interest in the Vegas Formula 1.
But I haven’t seen any analysis of why those involved expected it to be otherwise.
They said from the beginning that they didn’t expect a lot of Americans to flock to it, given the price and the historical lack of deep interest.
But why did they think a bunch of well-heeled Europeans and Asian would want to come to Vegas at all, let alone when it’s cold at night and when the race is during prime time to enjoy Vegas nightlife, and in any case Vegas has a decidedly lowbrow reputation even in America, let alone to a Grand Prix crowd.
Admittedly, I don’t know would-be ticket buyers very much, let alone have any expertise in marketing such an event. But in the absence of any information to the contrary, my default assumption would be it’s going to be a flat tire.
