What do you define as “the real deal”? For me, this is defined as someone who puts action behind their words, someone that is the same person all of the time, and someone who backs up their talk with follow through. Growing up, I did not have a good example of someone who possessed these qualities. In fact, it was so normal to me that people not put action behind their words and follow through that I did not do it myself. As I grew up, I became less and less consistent. I was flaky. For a while, I was all talk. After a period I wasn’t even talk because I knew I couldn’t follow through. It wasn’t until I was introduced to Grant Cardone that I had an example of someone who did what they said and followed through on their promises.
My story. I was actually introduced to Grant Cardone at the age of 18. My dad found a show on TV called Turnaround King. The guy in the show and in this particular episode went into a failing gym and helped them increase sales and save the business. I liked the show but I did not know who the host, Grant Cardone, was at the time. To be fair, I didn’t know who anyone was in the personal development space at that age.
5 years later I was stranded in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. I had flown down for a business trip from Alaska on a 1-way ticket on a credit card. If I did not close a sale I was not going home. I had a hotel room for 5 days and a rental car for 3 days. After 5 days was up I would not have a roof over my head or transportation. It was day 4. Budget rental car was calling me saying they had put a security notice on the rental car that was now 24 hours overdue. In one more day I would not have a roof over my head. Being homeless in February in Minnesota wasn’t ideal and my only way out of the situation was to close a sale, get the commission advanced, and fly home.
I found Grant Cardone on YouTube. I was sitting in my hotel before an appointment feeling sorry for myself. I somehow found Grant’s video on YouTube. He was in a cab in another country listening to the cab driver tell him that business was bad because the economy was slow. I watched Grant confront the man’s victim mindset and tell him that he alone was responsible for his own personal economy. This resounded with me. Long story short, because of what I learned from Grant that day, I closed a sale and made it home.
Fast forward 2.5 years and by using the strategies Grant teaches, I have been able to take my income from $50,000 to $650,000. I realized my results were created by my actions. My actions were created by my feelings. My feelings were created by my thinking. My thinking was created by me, by my own being-ness. I realized if I wanted different results I had to get rid of the opinions and beliefs I had that weren’t serving me. I brain washed myself, essentially. I stripped everything down and adopted what Grant was teaching. The result? My income grew from $50k a year to $650k a year.
