GRATITUDEDAY 21: DEMOCRACY DAY IN NIGERIA

in gratitudeday21 •  7 years ago

Many people do not appreciate what they have not until they loose it. Your freedom for example to move to any part of the country or just to come out in the morning and no one is chasing you for one reason or the other.

We have a country Nigeria where things are not working as they should for the people.

The government seem not to care or are insensitive to the people's plight of hardship and sufferings.

People complaining here and there about the economy, academic decadence, deplorable health situation as there is a nation wide strke of the Joint Health Workers Union (JOHESU), for over a month. The negotiations seem not to be having any head way because government are not yielding to their demands.

To this end many common Nigerians who cannot afford to pay the high price of obtaining health services in most private hospitals are at a cross road and some have lost hope and died.

This situation in Nigeria cuts across all sectors, electricity, Road and transport, housing, agriculture, you name it. There are issues that needs urgent attention.

In most parts of the world, either there would be an impeachment of the rulling government or war would have broken out.

I remember when I went for an international training in Sweden year 2015. The week we were to, return to Nigeria after 3 weeks plus stay was the week of the election that brought in the present government.

Over there in Sweden, it seemed Nigeria was on fire already, due to the fillers we were getting back home. Some asked us to stay a little longer till after the election just about 3 days to come and since our visas allowed us to stay longer.

The tension was sky high and thick as smoke. Even at the airport in Amsterdam, Nigerians on board the flight were having all sort of discussions as regards the chaos in Nigeria. Hearts pounding for fear of an impending silent war drum beating.

Our colleagues from other African countries were in prayers for us. Calling to find out the situation.

Well we came back, the elections took place and the change came. Any how it is for you-it sha came.

This is three years after and Nigeria is still together.

My gratitude

I am grateful that Nigeria is still together as a country, striving hard as ever. It could have been better, yet it could have been worse. God kept us together for a purpose.

Nigeria is not in any kind of civil war with loving families scattered abroad across the land with some missing or even dead.

I am grateful for the youths of Nigeria embracing cryptocurrency and the blockchain technology as the solution to our problems in this nation, as many are looking inwardly to find more lasting solutions.

I am not a politician. I do not intend to be one in the near future but anything is possible.

As we enjoy this peace while it is for now, let every youth, old, male and female do their bid in getting their permanent votters card (PVC). That is the voice with which we can speak and effect the proper/ desired change that we need.

Our children will ask us the role we played in the 2019 elections if we dont get it right. Let us be proud to tell them what we did for their sake.
