Gratitude Day 29: Grateful For Stable Electricity

in gratitudeday29 •  6 years ago

This post is inspired by @julietisrael. After reading through her last gratefulness post, I realized that there's a luxury I have that I seem to be ungrateful for, hahaha.
This is my first "gratefulness post" brought about by @tojukaka, and today I am grateful for constant electricity.

Today, I am extremely grateful for constant electricity, no, you'll not understand. Growing up in a country like mine, you'll realize that getting to have constant electricity is not a common gift, it's a luxury.

During my childhood, I remember that we would shout and dance whenever the electricity agency (NEPA) as formerly called would bring light, even the adults and our parents would scream Nepa!!! at the sight of light entering our incandescent light bulbs. We got used to darkness, such that whenever there was light, there would be massive jubilation and celebration.

But this year, in the course of my travels across different parts of Nigeria, I have come to realized that the light situation is actually different in some locations. We seem to have a more stable and constant electricity supply in the Northern and Western parts of Nigeria than in the East and South.

The first experience I had of a stable and constant electricity was while staying with @lordjames at Akwanga, Nassarawa. I had to keep asking him..., Do they ever take this light? There was steady light, if they ever took it, they would bring it back in 30 minutes or less. Another encounter of steady electricity was while staying at Sokale, Abuja, I was used to constant electricity there too.

I'm currently based in Ibadan, and where I live, I sleep and wake up with light. I get prepared everyday leaving light in the house to school, I feel sad sometimes that I don't even get to make good use of this electricity, like I don't get to maximize it because I spend most of my day in school. In a day, we have light for at least 18 hours. I'm from the South, it has never been so where I come from.

Sometimes, the only time I don't have light in my room is when I turn it off, when I put it off from the switch. I am grateful for constant electricity, though it's not 24 hours, but 18-20 hours of constant electricity is worth being grateful for. We need electricity to read, cook, iron clothes, watch movies, work on our gadgets, play games. And most importantly, we need electricity to promote steem!

We need electricity to keep on steeming! And when we talk about global steem adoption in Steemjet, we can't possibly attain that without constant electricity. After teaching people about cryptos and steem, they'll need energy to power their gadgets to get on the blockchain, and that energy is electricity.

This is me being grateful for constant electricity today!

Indeed, having steady light in a country like ours is very much something we should be grateful for.
Cheers

Hahaha, absolutely. Thank you for the remarks

My dear you don't know what the Lord has done for u, for 3wks now we don't have light because someone stole something from our transformer.

It's really affecting my activeness here, of a truth we need constant light to steem.

Oh oh, that's heartbreaking to know. Why would someone steal from the transformer, that's pathetic. It's like robbing the future.

I can only imagine the stress you go through to keep your gadgets on. Light is wasting here for me as I barely have time to stay at home and enjoy it.

Fantastic,,, here no single light but double bill so be grateful jirreh

Hahaha at double bill, that thing can be so painful ehn
