Those mainly arrested in the large Greek naturalization syndicate are lawyers (five from the outside Athens) and civil servants from Municipalities and Regions.
Among then, two local government officials, one of whom is the president of the municipal council and is elected with New Democracy, while another New Democracy cadre, former deputy mayor, and current president of local self-government organizations.
So far, twenty-three people have been arrested, as members of the large syndicate which carried out illegal Greek naturalizations across all of Greece, following an extensive operation by the Internal Affairs Directorate, which is now well underway.
Seven lawyers, five civil servants – executives of the region, as well as a public hospital employee participated in the syndicate. Two Egyptian counterfeiters were also arrested, who issued documents to aliens.
In fact, the husband of an arrested lawyer, is a member in the guard for Golden Dawn’s Corfu MP, Ioannis Aivatidis.
The operation began yesterday morning, by police officers, in cooperation with auditors for the Internal Audit Service of Public Administration (SEEDD), concurrently in six of the country’s cities, since the necessary evidence had been collected, following the monitoring and recording of telephone conversations.
In the context of the operation, initially arrested in flagrante delicto, in a countryside city, were a lawyer, an employee of the region and four aliens, who had just paid 1,200 euros each for their legalization documents in Greece. The arrests of 19 others followed. All 23 detainees (16 Greeks and 7 aliens), were transported to Athens and will be brought before the prosecutor, along with the casefile organized against them by the Internal Affairs Directorate.
Among the seven aliens arrested are counterfeiters, they falsified passports and other supporting documents for interested parties. Using these, and also fake certificates, the lawyers in the syndicate added to the files, and sent them for approval in the regions outside of Attica.
