1859: The first telegraph line in Greece, between Athens and Piraeus, begins operating.

1981: Greece becomes a member of the European Economic Community (EEC).

2001: Greece becomes a member of the Eurozone.

2002: The Euro replaces the Drachma and the national currency of Greece.
