1827: Tsar Nicholas I of Russia accepts the resignation of Ioannis Kapodistrias from his post as Foreign Minister of the Russian Empire, in order for Kapodistria to become Governor of Greece.

1843: By Royal Decree, the right to issue banknotes is granted to the National Bank (of Greece).

1913: Ioannis Velissariou, Balkan Wars hero, dies.

1920: The Greek Army liberates Adrianople.

1994: Paisios of Mount Athos dies. Elder Paisios is a canonized saint of the Greek Orthodox Church.
