That's just like me, every aspect of my life has to be a pathetic challenge. I don't mean to seem like I'm bitching but everything I do is like ten times harder than the average person I give up. If this was a 100 years ago id be dead long ago. Darwin where are you already?

You seem to upload a lot of kind of short posts, while not really writing long articles that teach other people something. I do the exact opposite - I use all the things I learned in the past about working, developing and making money online to share all that information with the people interested in reading it and learning from it. You seem to use the website kind of like a social media platform, which is understandable, while I use it more like a personal blog.
Also, I guess it really depends on how much time you spend interacting with people. On my good days I can spend 4 hours only writing comments, upvoting posts I like and talking to people.
I think if you would at least spend more time talking with others, like you're doing with me, now, commenting and making sure other people notice you by writing long comments full of value, you will get noticed and you will receive more rewards.
I don't think you should quit, I just think you should invest more time into the right things. Try to treat Steemit like a blog for around 2 weeks. Post long articles, try to teach people a few of the things you know, and spend time commenting on other posts and upvoting.
Another thing that may really help you is to look at your content, and think "if this would be another guy, would I follow him? would i upvote all his posts?". Also compare your posts to other people who make a lot of money. If the answer to those questions is "no", then that's your problem right there.
You seem like an interesting person, and I think you have things to share with others, from your personal life, that can teach other people something. Take the time and invest into writing articles sharing your stories and the things you know, and you may have a surprise when it comes to the rewards you get.
Also, make sure to interact with other people in this website. Write long comments, like this one, read their articles and talk about it in the comments, give useful information and feedback, and I assure you, you'll make a lot more than you're making now :)

If you truly understand the business model, you would understand that most of these post have no real value regardless of what you were writing. Most of the value that transfers hands is from whale to whale. I'm pretty sure no one even really reads any of these posts to begin with. Many times I see up votes on posts people dont even look at. However these are only my observations not reality probably. You get more money for your longer responses because they fill more real estate on the screen, in turn making them easier to pick out. I am sorry, I just don't see steemit being like a conventional blog environment

Well, here's the thing - I don't really understand the business model. For me, the word "business" was always associated with a bunch of people in suits trying to make money, and nothing more.
The only word that resonates with me is "content", and that's the only thing I'm willing to do, to create content that is more or less useful to people.
And here's the thing - you are right when you say that people don't really read the content others make, and most of them just want to upvote and get something in case you get lucky and get a tons of money.
However, the people who are big, the people who do care about the content and the people we call "whales" are actually reading articles, and they actually upvote content that they consider to be really good.
I'm not trying to upload small "articles" that contain around 100 words in order to get some small attention from people that all they're gonna do is upvote my post and then forget about me.
I'm trying to write valuable content, at least medium length articles (1000 - 2000 words) that will make people interested in that type of content follow me, consume my future content and upvote it, because they actually care about what they do.
My goal is not to trick a lot of people into upvoting my posts and make a lot of money in the next two weeks. My goal is to write interesting articles, get followers who are really interested in that kind of content, build a community around it and have a stable income for a long period of time.
Valuable content, that you really spend a lot of time on, to create it, to make it better and better, is the way to go if you want to make a certain amount of money.
Everyone can read a post that contains 100 words, but most of the people don't matter, if we talk only about money. If you want money, you need to get big people to read it, whales, people that have a lot of influence, and those people care about long and useful articles.
The number of upvotes you have doesn't matter. The people reading it does. One whale upvoting your post can make a bigger difference than 1000 people with 0 steam power :)
I don't want to make $100 a week with short articles and get 10 followers with that, I want to write long articles, get $50 and gain 100 followers a week. That, for me, is way more important in the long run, than to make money fast and easy.

Obviously you have the ability to type and compile these long-winded responses a lot quicker than the average person can, count yourself as lucky dude. Not everyone has the same mental capacity as the next person. These hundred and two hundred word posts probably take me longer than it takes you to write one of your two or three thousand word posts. They are not easy for me, I'm still trying to learn this whole blogging game. I'm a numbers person, I am an accountant by trade not a b******* artist. First, you shouldn't get mad because I wasn't confrontational, I was just telling you the truth. If you are an accountant, then you should understand that if the upvote of a person with almost 0 influence and 0 steam power is around $0.5 - $0.10 and the vote of a whale with a lot of influence and a lot of steam power is around $15 - $25, you shouldn't try to write articles for people with 0 influence and 0 steam power, but for whales and people that matter.
Second, I do not have an "ability" to write fast and create really long articles. I wasn't born with this, and I wasn't "blessed". I spent hours writing comments, articles, answers and all kind of things until I managed to be able to type fast and write long articles without needing huge amounts of time.
And even like that, I still need a lot of time to write a normal sized article. One with 1000 words takes me around 15 - 20 minutes to write, if I know a few things about the subject and another 30 - 45 minutes to make sure everything is okay and I didn't make a lot of mistakes. So, over an hour for 1000 words articles.
I wrote an article that has around 23 pages in microsoft word, God knows how many words - it took me 1 week to write, 7 hours to make sure everything is okay. And I know the subject really well. Some people would need 2 days to post something like that.
The only thing I have that you don't have, is the understanding that the quality matters more than the quantity, and that posting a great article once or twice a day will get you more than posting 10 bad articles daily.
If you don't believe me, ask any "whale" on this website and they'll tell you that the quality of the content matters more than the quantity. 5000 bad posts will always make less money than 500 wonderful posts, because the wonderful posts will attract upvotes from both new people and whales. If 4 whales vote one article of yours, that's around $100 right there.
Numbers are not everything that matter, especially if you're looking at the wrong ones. I say this again - 100 upvotes from people with 0 influence and 0 steam power will always have less value, in money, than 5 votes from 5 whales.
All you need, and apparently lack, is the will to invest more time into your content, and the will to work more in order to create high quality content. If you don't want to spend 2 or 3 hours a day to write and post a great article, then you can't complain about anything, you don't have the right, because you're actually no working as much as you should.
If you don't create high quality content, you can't expect to get a lot of rewards. Is that simple. I just told you, go look at your content without thinking it's yours, and see if you'd like to follow that guy and see his posts every single day when you enter Steemit. If you think you will, good, then you're doing a great job, but if you don't, you have a problem.
I'm sorry if I upset you, I just don't like bullshitting people, and I'd always rather tell the truth to someone than to lie to then and see them go down.
You can either listen to what I said, run the number yourself, learn a little more about steemit and understand what the problem is, then work hard if you want more money, or you can stop posting on Steemit at all because you think I'm wrong and you are right.

You're the one having all the success so I am not discounting anything that you're saying. I spent 6 years in University writing 5 - 30 page papers every week and it still takes me a good two to three hours to write 1000 word paper. So don't undermined your abilities . They are unique and beyond what a normal and average person can do. Sadly, practice doesn't make perfect for everyone. I can probably spend the rest of my life and never be able to match your speed of writing. And I am fine with that.
