new superblock (August 29: block #1007640, 41h birth time, 33% of BOINC projects missing)

 Gridcoin users have a new superblock (block 1007640, 2017 Aug. 29 23:54)

  • this SB was generated by user MeMoo, with current version 3.6.0.2
  • stats (since June 18): 41h average SB birth time (median = 30h)

These 8 BOINC projects are missing:

  • CSG
  • Collatz
  • Cosmology
  • Einstein
  • LHC
  • MilkyWay
  • NFS
  • Numberfields

Keep in mind:

  • this is now the 2nd time in the 4 last SBs that >30% of the projects are missing (see SB from Aug. 26).
  • It would help the devs if you provide your debug2.log, see here.

And again, for 32 days now, included: the  +35% magnitude boost

Why did the mag unit drop?

  • before the superblock contracts it was between 0.2 and 0.225, see here.

Team users:

  • 1751 with magnitude
  • 2680 without beacon
  • 13141 total users

I would really like to see an implementation where a missing project has its stats carried over from the last superblock (maybe for a maximum of one SB). The current implementation sees too many projects missing for a variety of reasons. Alternatively, if the reward system is reworked to count the change in total credits, that would 'fix' this issue too.

Currently, there are too many people being under and overpaid as a result of this.

How exactly are projects excluded from a superblock? I asked this before on reddit and erkan explained it was when a project server went down, or a project admin changed something. But with the large amount of projects excluded I find this being the only cause unlikely. Do we know why these projects were excluded?

There are a lot of reasons - you already named the most common ones. The scraper that collects project data can also fail on some projects, and as its relatively new the stability is still being investigated. Some projects also have weekly maintenance that will take the server offline, causing it to be excluded if a superblock forms during that time.

Currently there are several projects offline entirely.

the reason why 38% BOINC projects were missing 4days ago was seemingly due to

Don't forget that the superblock is a consensus. If none is found, you get no mag for the project.

This may be because the User A ask at 10:00 and user B ask at 10:03 and the numbers changed in that time.

GRC gives me a headache...
