Faucet new with reCaptcha

in gridcoin •  7 years ago

In my last post I wrote that I removed the coinhive mining captcha. My goal was to let the wallet running without a captcha as I find them annoying myself.
Sadly this didn't work as some members of our community abused my good will to claim coins every few seconds over the TOR network. I don't want to block TOR as everyone has the right to privacy.

So the only solution was to implement a captcha. Sadly I still see users claiming their coins multiple times over TOR. But at least they have to do it by hand. If you have any idea how to prevent this while respecting the privacy of the users, write a comment.

Can't help you with the info, sorry, just letting you know I actually liked that "coinhive mining captcha". You just wait few more seconds and it is done. (and I can even brag I was mining monero lol).

With the regular captcha I tend to get into trouble, needing to re-do it sometimes several times.

If "coinhive mining captcha" solved current Tor problem, I would go back to it.

P.s.
Thanks for doing this Faucet. I got today a little over 0.2GRC yay :-)

The same for me. Coinhive captcha is more convenient to solve than the google reCaptcha thing..
But many members of the community raised their concern, so I removed it.

Wow!! Why would a user from our community do that, to me that's just immoral!!

Do what ever you need to that stops anyone abusing the faucet .. How about doing the same as the faucet on gridcoinstats.eu and do it only by CPID ..

I want to give pool users the possibility to claim their reward too thats why I cant use the CPID.
I'm testing solutions to block TOR...Will see if it helps.

I wouldn't consider that person a member of our community tbh.
Just an opportunist that's abusing goodwill...

When gaining popularity you have to deal with this kind aswell I guess.

Could you set up a "coinhive mining captcha" just for Tor users? Or 1st time visitors -- then once a user has a cookie, they get a google captcha?

Thanks for setting this up! A true service.

It's not only TOR - you can also get a new DynIP by simply reconnecting the router.
Another possible way to lower abuse is using a cookie.

Good point! But I think a user that knows that reconnecting the router will give him a new IP will also delete the cookies...

The goal is to lower the faucet abuse so that more people can take advantage of it. Another way to lower abuse is to make the faucet "registered users only".
