WCG Not Rewarding GRC At This Time

in gridcoin •  7 years ago  (edited)

Due to a recent change with WCG, Gridcoin is not able to pull statistics from the project. In order to be included in a superblock, a project's stats have to be publicly accessible. Therefore, GRC is not being rewarded to anyone crunching that particular project. The change has to do with the EU's GDPR law which recently came into effect. Going forward, a token is required in order to access the project's stats. To receive a token, an agreement has to be signed, but the agreement is not ready to be reviewed/signed at this time. From WCG:

How do I export World Community Grid statistics?
Access to World Community Grid's data export files is restricted to persons who agree to comply with certain requirements regarding the processing of such data, and who sign our Data Processing Agreement.

This is in response to the General Data Protection Regulation, introduced by the European Union to give people control over their personal data.

We're in contact with WCG regarding the process and the agreement. An update will be posted when one is available.
For now, I suggest moving to another project if you would like to continue earning GRC since there is currently no ETA available.

This must be related to the GDPR chaos that our EU politicians started. I can only hope that this can be solved fast...

I would say it's the chaos of companies not working with these issues until the very very last week of everything.

In general, it's a good thing. But the way companies and organisations have worked on this is below all criticism.

Fully agree, but education should help people to be aware of their digital footprint. Imposing draconic rules us not helping anyone: small businesses disappear from the online, people get less options for more money. Bad guys get no pain, they anyway do not comply with the rules...

Thanks @neuralminer, does this only apply to WCG or can we expect a similar outlook for other whitelisted Gridcoin projects?

So far I've only heard about it affecting WCG. I'll ask some of the project admins though just in case. Good idea.
