Gridcoin Community Hangout #048

Need some $GRC to get your wallet going? We will be giving away 5 FREE GRC to anyone that needs it, up to 100 GRC per hangout!

Free Gridcoins are provided by the other members of the hangout as a kind gesture from the community.

Want to suggest a topic to discuss?

Reply with your suggestions in this Steemit post & order of discussion will be from highest to lowest upvotes.

Can we discuss anything?

It's advisable to stay generally on topic, attendees are distributed around the world so they may not (likely won't) share the same views regarding controversial topics not related to Gridcoin/BOINC/computers/cryptocurrency.

What is Gridcoin?

Gridcoin securely rewards BOINC computation on top of Proof of Stake. Reward allocation is distributed, not centralized unlike other distributed computing related cryptocurrencies.

Why are we holding these hangouts?

  • A mumble conference call can provide significant advantages over communicating via text.
  • To create opportunities to inform the public of new Gridcoin, BOINC, and related services & their development progress.
  • To bridge relations between the cryptocurrency & BOINC communities, and our users.
  • To be transparent in our actions.

How long will the hangout last?

Anywhere from 45 minutes to 5 hours!

Gridcoin Hangout #048 will be held on:

January 20, 2018 @ 7pm UTC.

Compare 7pm UTC to your time zone!

Where can I donate grc to fund the hangout giveaway?

I have a solution involving the distributions of funds done live through a windows vm. This wallet is what I have been using for demonstration purposes in prior hangouts/classrooms. I intend on eventually using it as a community slush fund of sorts, however, I have not properly done enough security on it as of now. So, I have been sending funds from my wallet and so does rino, too. We could do lots of things within methods that are transparent.

Im new to grc and their project seems promising, I'll try my best to be at this hangout!

Moo threatened to remove from white-list by ongoing poll.

Natalia Makarova from ODLK1 replied to ODLK whitelist thread.
Not satisfied that they were not notified about gridcoin white-list trial.
ODLK1 whitelist poll passed.

me: Ваш проект генерирует достаточно, чтобы иметь постоянный запас рабочих единиц? Как долго длится ваш проект?

Progger: Hello. This project is very young, it started on May 19. But the problem to be solved appeared long ago - first solutions found in 1992 (https://boinc.progger.info/odlk/forum_thread.php?id=2&postid=12#12).
At the moment there are not enough tasks for everyone. I have some thinks how fix it in nearly future.

me: Кроме того, если вы говорите по-английски, мы проводим интервью с администраторами BOINC. Слушайте прошлые интервью здесь: https://soundcloud.com/gridcoin-community-hangouts/sets/interviews

Progger: I can read and write in English, but not speak - too little experience for this :(
Thanks for the link, it's interesting.

it's kind of odd that we have to contact the project admin. to what? get their permission to crunch the project? considering the now had 2 sites to handle the workload, i figured the problem of "not enough workunits" had been remedied. :)

some of the letter is omitted, but i'm pretty sure i said something akin to "we're thinking of adding your project to the Gridcoin whitelist." - as one would be expected to do in this situation.

Let them know that we are working to fix the process, including asking permission before white-listing a project:

https://github.com/gridcoin-community/Gridcoin-Tasks/issues/194

That consortium idea sounds great, no need to treat other coins with the same intentions as rivals.

They just went in the same direction but on a different route.

We here at Gridcoin should embrace the diversity that is out there in 'cryptocurrency land' ..
